Serenity in the Mountains:
A couple of weeks ago when the first snow fell, we ventured out toward Cucharas, Colorado, checking the scenery and wildlife! It was a drizzly~snowy day, but great for watching deer. The following weekend, I just couldn't sit at the cabin! It was a gorgeous day, and the thought of the changing colors drew me back out onto The Highway of Legends, and up to Bear Lake. I also figured on gittin' in a little fishin'. It was just to pretty out, to sit there and fish. The crisp smell in the forest drew us to go exploring! As we hiked down the mountain, we came across some of the most beautiful small streams and tiny water falls! The sounds of the water rushing was music to the ears. Stan & Jon came across a small cave, but were not sure about the occupants(best left that way too)! It was gettin' on in the afternoon, and we decided to head back up the mountain, and put some groceries where they'd do some good(in us). As you can bet, the climb back up was definitely vertical!
  • Anger is a condition in which the tongue works faster than the mind.....
Talk About Dumb.... Two cowboys come upon an Indian lying on his stomach with his ear to the ground. One of the cowboys stops and says to the other, "You see that Indian?"
"Yeah," says the other cowboy.
"Look," says the first one, "he's listening to the ground. He can hear things for miles in any direction."
Just then the Indian looks up. "Covered wagon," he says, "about two miles away. Have two horses, one brown, one white. Man, woman, child, household effects in wagon."
"Incredible!" says the cowboy to his friend. "This Indian knows how far away they are, how many horses, what color they are, who is in the wagon, and what is in the wagon. Amazing!"
The Indian looks up and says, "Ran over me about half hour ago."

The Ski Lodge:
Ski Loveland
Loveland Ski Area Begins Snowmaking For Early Opening
(Georgetown, CO....September 27, 2000)

Loveland Ski Area will commence snowmaking operations Friday, September 29, for the 2000-2001 season. Consistent overnight lows in the 20s combined with nine inches of new snow at higher elevations earlier in the week have provided Loveland with the conditions needed to fire up its fleet of snow guns.
This seasons addition of electric power to the top of Chair #2 allows Loveland to utilize state of the art, fully-automated snow guns on additional terrain at higher elevations, enabling the ski area to open more terrain sooner with better snow. Snowmaking efforts have been amplified in preparation for the upcoming "Chevy Truck Super Series" Alpine ski race scheduled to make its debut at Loveland on November 11th and 12th, 2000. The Chevy Truck Super Series, a U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association sanctioned competition, is the U.S. portion of the Nor Am Cup. Twelve events are scheduled in the United States for top male and female alpine skiers. Future Olympians as well as current U.S. Ski Team members will compete at the Loveland Super Series as they prepare for gold medal bids in the 2001 Winter Olympics in Utah.

Survival Tip:PURIFICATION TECHNIQUES:
There are 3 tried and tested ways to make sure your wilderness water is safely disinfected: Boiling, Halogenation, and Filtration. You should pick the one that best suits your needs and is appropriate to your activity.

This Week: FILTRATION:
Water filters physically strain out some of the organisms and contaminants in water, that could cause disease. Structurally, there are two basic kinds of filters: 1.)Surface or membrane filters are thin perforated sheets that block impurities; 2.)depth filters are made of thick and porous materials that trap impurities as the water is forced through.
The effectiveness of filters varies greatly from one that removes only relatively large particles, such as Giardia lamblia, to one that removes virtually everything removable. Viruses are too small to be filtered out, but some filters kill viruses with iodine from resins on the filter as the water passes through. Mechanically, there are also two basic types: 1.)Pump-feed filters that require manual force to push the water through the filter; 2.)Gravity feed filters that just hang there while water drips via gravity through the system.
Filtered water looks "clean" but the purity of the water depends on the specific filter. Read the claims of a filter carefully before you purchase. They are available in a wide variety of prices, shapes and sizes! Filtration, in general, costs more, but offers the quickest route to safe water.

Until next time: Be Safe ~ Be Happy!!

!SOLUTIONS!-NO 1040:
Many Americans have a very definite idea about how the Internal Revenue Service behaves. And in many respects, they are correct. Testimony before the Senate Committee in October of 1997 revealed, for the first time for many Americans, just how the IRS tries to intimidate and bully you.

Folks, think about the above statement and then browse over to this great site, with information and answers to your questions, on income tax and more. As a people, we need to get our heads out of the sand and start exploring the information contained within these pages. As far as I am concerned, I've rated the above site as NO. 1!!

Coping With Sleep Deprivation:
Having a baby in the house almost guarantees that your sleep schedule will be thrown totally out of whack. The best remedy for sleep deprivation is simply getting more z's. If you can't adjust your regular bedtime to catch up on lost sleep, consider designating one night a week as the one when you hit the hay early. Cut back your morning routine to the bare minimum so you can sleep a bit later. Remember, dozing for just five minutes longer a day gives you half an hour of extra sleep each week. Also, take advantage of opportunities to catnap by letting someone else drive the carpool or catching a few winks on your lunch hour.
NOTE: Always Check with and follow the advice of your Physician!

Bonding with your baby:
Dad, are you having a hard time bonding with your new baby? Try a staring contest. You probably always thought that prowess is a guy thing, right? Lest you believe that little baby of yours is a pushover, engage her in a time-honored ritual of seeing who'll blink first. She may surprise you. Babies love to contemplate faces, and chances are that before she gets bored you'll have dropped your gaze, wondering where she got that incredible dimple, or whether her ears look like your mom's or your wife's.
NOTE! Always check with and follow the advice of your physician!!
