The St. James Hotel:
The St. James Hotel, located in historic Cimarron, New Mexico. The hotel is famous not only for it's previous guests, but also the haunted rooms and ghosts!

The St. James began as a saloon built in 1872 by the Frenchman Henri Lambert, the personal chef to President Abraham Lincoln and General Ulysses S. Grant. The hotel was established in 1880. In the beginning, the hotel was a place of violence. 26 men were killed within the two-foot-thick adobe walls. The notorious gunman Clay Allison is said to have danced on the bar, once part of the present elegant dining room, which still has bullet holes in the pressed tin ceiling. Other notables who stayed at the St. James include train robber Blackjack Ketchum and Buffalo Bill Cody, who met here with Annie Oakly to plan his Wild West Show. Zane Grey ("Fighting Caravans") and governor Lew Wallace ("Ben Hur") wrote at the hotel and Frederic Remington sketched the nearby hills. Today the hotel is a place of quiet elegance, fine food and drink, expert and friendly service and unsurpassed hospitality. The St. James Hotel offers 12 restored rooms beautifully decorated with priceless antiques, the famous dining room, a modern ten room hotel annex and a cafe. The hotel is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

 SURFING THE OUTDOORS

Ridin' the Rails: Potomac Eagle Scenic Railroad
Romney, West Virginia
Come ride the historic Potomac Eagle Scenic Railroad, one of America's most beautiful train rides. For three hours enjoy a narrated excursion through a tranquil and pristine mountain valley. View historic farms and lush mountain greenery. Around every curve you are rewarded with the splendor of native wildflowers, evergreens and mixed hardwoods, in an unspoiled countryside environment. Experience "The Trough," a spectacular narrow mountain valley. Below you, runs the South Branch of the Potomac River, where the water is so clear and transparent that you can see fish as they lie resting in the shade.

Above you the high mountain walls and thick forest help keep a secret that few have discovered. You have entered a sacred place, the eastern home of our magnificent national symbol, the American bald eagle. These majestic birds soar high above in their natural habitat, undisturbed by the low rumblings of the occasional train and the passengers who have come for a sighting. Don't be surprised to see these superb flyers swooping overhead in pursuit of prey or gliding gently across the blue mountain skies as if to flaunt their supremacy of the air.

Happy Railroadin' Partners.....have fun and enjoy!!! No better way to enjoy wildlife....nature....and just down right relaxin'!

USA Today:
Retrieval of Titanic artifacts begins:
An expedition to retrieve historic artifacts from the ruins of the sunken Titanic is underway in the North Atlantic. The expedition, however, has provoked charges of piracy and grave-robbing from critics including Robert Ballard, who discovered the shipwreck 15 years ago. Ballard claims that the wreckage should be left untouched so that it can remain a memorial to the 1,603 people who died on the ship's maiden voyage. Nonetheless, the expedition will attempt to uncover historic objects from the ship's mailroom, first-class cabins and captain's quarters, as well as valuable jewels from the bow.

Recognizing False Labor:
If Braxton Hicks contractions are irregular and subside when you change activity, they're referred to as false labor. False labor may feel just like the real thing; the only difference is that the contractions start to taper off and then disappear altogether. Doctors say that unless you're finely attuned to the subtleties of labor, you probably won't be able to determine whether you're experiencing false labor until it's over. But false labor can progress into true labor, and therefore evaluation by your doctor or midwife is often necessary to tell the difference, especially if you're having false labor signs very early on. Some signs of false labor include: Contractions that are irregular and don't seem to increase in intensity, pain centered on your lower abdomen rather than on your lower back, and contractions that subside when you move around or take a walk.
NOTE: Always follow the advice of your Physician!

Why Your Baby Needs to Be Immunized:
Have you ever wondered why babies need to be immunized against diseases that have all but disappeared? The answer is simple: Because a few people still do get these diseases, and they are highly contagious. If enough people decide to forgo vaccinations, these illnesses can easily spread to epidemic proportions again. We know this is true because it happened: When measles vaccination rates in the United States dropped in the late 1980s, more than 100,000 people came down with the disease and 120 died from it. In 1998, when immunization rates were back up, only 89 people became sick from measles and no one died.
NOTE! Always check with and follow the advice of your physician!!

SPICY BEEF DIP:
This dip is not only served hot, it's plenty spicy. Serve it with crackers or tortilla chips. If you enjoy spicy foods, try using chopped canned jalapeno peppers in place of the green peppers. Serves eight.
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons milk, at room temperature
  • 2.5 ounces dried beef, chopped
  • 1/2 cup sour cream, at room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons dried minced onion
  • 2 tablespoons green pepper, chopped
  • 2 to 3 dashes of hot sauce
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • Garlic powder to taste
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Blend cream cheese and milk; mix in other ingredients. Depending on the texture you prefer, you can mix by hand or in a food processor.

Bake in a small baking dish for 15 minutes.

So until next time, REMEMBER:  Cooking lesson #1: don't fry bacon in the nude.
