Are You Using Too Much Scope?
By Clair Rees Winter was setting in along the Utah-Colorado border. It was two days before Thanksgiving, and I was slogging slowly through a foot of snow blanketing the Dolores Triangle. I’d drawn a late-season permit for the area. Hunting had been spotty here during Utah’s 10-day October deer season, when only “so-so” bucks were in residence. I was after one of the mossyhorns that descended from Colorado’s high plateaus to winter in the Triangle when the weather turned foul. It was snowing lightly when I left the tent that morning. Less than an hour later, I was bucking a real blizzard. Hoping the snow would let up before long, I sat with my back against a large sagebrush that blocked the wind, and settled in to wait. The blizzard eventually petered out, and only a few scattered flakes still drifted from the sky. Before getting to my feet to shake the snow from my coat and pants, I carefully looked around. A flicker of movement caught my eye, so I raised my binocular for a closer look. Like me, four mule deer had bedded down to wait out the storm — and one was a huge 8-pointer! I’d spotted the buck as he rose from his snowy bed. Now he stood stiff-legged, looking in my direction. There was no time to waste. I raised my .308 Sako carbine, aimed and shot the deer from where I sat. The buck fell back in his bed as the other deer took flight. Continued...

The Hawken Carbine is patterned after the reliable and functional rifles developed for use during the Indian fur trading days. These distinctive, conventionally-styled guns were designed exclusively by companies such as Henry and Leman, and were primarily sought after by Indians, trappers, and frontiersmen. Investarm Hawken Carbine Features The Hawken Carbine is designed with a significantly shorter barrel than most other Hawken rifles, making it compact and light-weight when compared to its predecessors. This muzzleloader features a beautiful European walnut stock and comes standard with accurate, adjustable iron sights. The front sight is a .350 dovetail blued steel blade, while the rear sight is a .350 dovetail in open style. The rifle features polished brass furniture, a case-hardened lock, and a single trigger that is spring-loaded for positive tension. The Investarm Hawken Carbine Rifle is 41.5" in overall length and sports a blued octagonal barrel with a 1:48" rate of twist. The Hawken Carbine was designed as a sidelock hunting rifle with a 24" barrel, making it compact and lightweight. The shorter barrel allows for improved performance in tight spaces while maintaining superior accuracy. The Hawken Carbine is offered in .45, .50, and .54 caliber with the option of flintlock or percussion available for each caliber. This muzzleloader also boasts a full line of left-handed models and build-it-yourself kits for those that are looking for the ultimate black powder experience. They will develope various threads that you have to pay to enter and post on!! We usually avoid those sites as they are there just for profit. A muzzleloading should provide you with everything you need to be proficient in your endeavors, wether it be just shooting, hunting, rendezvous, and other related endeavors you seek. Also on the pay site, you will find a lot of rash, gestapo, type moderators that just look for excuses to shame and/or ban members for trivial things that they have a personal dislike for!!
