Trump is right -- California is out of control
by Kerry Jackson

When President Trump recently visited California, he came away with the sense that it “is totally out of control.” If he arrived at that conclusion from just a single visit, imagine how many who live in the state feel.

To be fair, California itself isn’t out of control. There are many among the 40 million who honorably and honestly go about their daily business. Outside of Antifa riots and some infantile behavior on college campuses, there are no mobs in the streets; crime is up but not unrestrained; there are multiple efforts brewing to break up the state, but none are threatening violent insurgencies (though there is a Calexit movement that calls for the state to leave the union).

What is out of control is California’s ruling class. Much of its political agenda is hostile to basic human liberty and mocks the limits on what government should be allowed to do in an ostensibly free society.

Likely the sharpest thorn in Trump’s side is California lawmakers’ contempt of our federal system. States enjoy wide latitude to pursue their own destinies. The 10th Amendment provides states with “powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States,” but it doesn’t allow them to conduct their own foreign policy, which is the province of the federal executive branch.

If all this isn’t enough to convince the rest of the country that California lawmakers are out of control, add to it legislation that regulates cattle flatulence in the name of the climate.

Yet California has decided that it is a sanctuary state where federal immigration laws don’t apply. Since Jan. 1, state and local law enforcement officers have been barred by law from cooperating with federal immigration enforcement.

No matter what one feels about immigration, those who respect the federal system have to admit that this is out of bounds. Of course, the 78 state lawmakers who voted in favor of declaring California a sanctuary state think that their sort of secessionist thinking is just fine. But they have a test ahead. It’s going to be interesting to see if it’s acceptable to them for one of their cities to secede from their secession. What are they going to do with the Los Alamitos City Council, which voted on March 19 to exempt their Orange County city from the state sanctuary law?

Like the Legislature, Gov. Jerry Brown has also dabbled in foreign affairs. He’s invited “the whole world” to a climate summit in San Francisco this year and has signed climate deals with Chinese officials.

While Brown played on the world stage, state lawmakers were hard at work at home banning plastic shopping bags from grocery stores, proposing to criminalize what they see is the irresponsible use of plastic straws, and continuing to raise taxes, which are already the most backbreaking in the nation.

According to the Tax Foundation, California has the sixth-highest state-local tax burden as a percentage of income; ranks 48th in the State Business Tax Climate Index; has the most punishing individual top income tax bracket; and is home to the highest state sales tax. After passing a $52 billion fuel tax hike last year, California has moved closer to having the highest combined gasoline and diesel taxes in the country, though it’s not quite there yet.

If all this isn’t enough to convince the rest of the country that California lawmakers are out of control, add to it legislation that regulates cattle flatulence in the name of the climate; a law that requires greenhouse gas emissions to be cut 40 percent below 1990 levels by 2030, even though the law’s language says it will “at least” cost “hundreds of millions of dollars” a year; and a $15 minimum wage by 2022 that Brown admitted “may not make sense” economically and will without question depress employment.

Can it get worse? Bet on it. One legislator has proposed banning the sale of gas-powered cars by 2040. Another wants to require every kilowatt of electric power sold in the state to be generated by renewable sources by 2045. These ideas are, like so much public policy in California, as foolish as they sound.

NOTE:
The governor of Colorado, John Hickenlooper, a died in the wool liberal democrat, stated that since he legalized the sale of marijuana, the opioid use has gone down 6 percent, his statistics! Of course this is coming from another lying politician to cover his ass for the increase in drug usage, increase in crime, increase in traffic deaths, need I say more?!

Dear readers, the LEFT WING LIBERALS will be the destruction of this great nation! They do everything in their power to discredit and blame this great Country for the ills of the world!

SERVICES by FRONTIERMUZZLELOADING:

ACCURACY
Internal Lock Polishing: $45.xx. CVA/Traditions/Siler/L&R locks only. I will polish all moving/mating surfaces and lock plate for a smooth grit free feel. This speeds up lock time and makes it butter smooth.
Trigger Polishing: $20.xx. Work would include the internals of the lock, the double set triggers MUST be polished fora smooth crisp, grit free feel!
Accuracy Bedding: $60.xx. Needed just like a center fire, your wood stock muzzle loader is actually prone to the tang screw/s loosening due to the weaker wood actually pulling the metal parts up and into the wood under heavy recoil! Loose tang screws are a dead giveaway of this happening only after a few shots, killing your accuracy.
Wet Weather soaking your wood stock also is a common problem. "In order to do the job correctly you will have to send your complete muzzle loader so I can bed all parts as one for the best accuracy possible."
Coning the Muzzle: $35.xx. This procedure in present day is known as "coning”. It was known in the 19th century as a "relieved" muzzle and also as a "funneled" muzzle. Once the rifle has been “coned” it can be loaded rather easily without using the short starter.
FINISHES
Barrel Browning: $65.xx. I use nothing but the best to brown all muzzle loader barrels. It’s a slow process which generally takes 3 to 5 days to complete properly. This included sights, tang, screws, etc. If it deals with the barrel/attachment. It is included in the price.
Browning Accessories: Contact for price! Butt plate, trigger guard, nose cap, patch box, Etc. Just let me know what all you have and I will work on a price for you.
Stock Refinish: $125.xx. Have an old beauty of a muzzle loader but the stock is looking a little beat up? No problem! All finishes are hand rubbed from the low gloss, matte to high mirror gloss, I can do it in whatever finish you want. Walnut normally does NOT get stained unless the owner wants it reddish or almost black. Good walnut normally never needs staining.
Brush the Brass: $25.xx. To rid that beautiful rifle of yours and that ugly shiny cheap looking brass, I can also provide a Brushed look to your rifles furniture that will age nicely and cut that cheap shininess out! Stop scaring game with that mirror! It’s a hunting rifle, not a beauty pageant!

Frontier's - Gun Care Lubricants:
NEW! Frontier's Shoot Out! Patch Lube & Bore Enhancer:
Shoot Out! Is a special patch lubricant. It is a patch lube AND a bore polish, all in one bottle. No more having to sit and polish a new, rough or pitted bore by hand! No more having to use lead conicals and having to swab between shots or shooting low pressure loads.[/center]

Shoot Out! allows the shooter to use their regular hunting/target loads that they are used to shooting. It is recommended however, that the shooter use as little as 20 grains of black powder/sub to get down into the breech as far as possible to help polish the bore where the powder sits, making for easier cleaning.

The shooter may also use a VERY TIGHT fitting patch on their cleaning rod, saturated with SHOOT OUT! to hand polish the breech end of the bore because we can get get every little bit of it, even with a little load like 20 grains of powder. Those that do not shoot patched round balls, can still use this product as described above.

Shoot Out! is a gentle bore polishing patch lube that was made to smooth out new and old barrels that may have scratches, chatter and light pitting. The actual patch lube mixed with our polishing media, allows the shooter to shoot round after round without ever having to stop to clean the bore out.

This is not a miracle polishing patch lubricant! If your abused barrel looks like a sewer pipe with a couple Thanks Giving meals stuck, You are much better off buying a new barrel or having it re-bored.

LITERATURE CORNER

TREASURES OF READING
Folks, here are some great books to read, while relaxing in the evening........

Buy Today...Great Reading!! Do As I Say (Not As I Do): Profiles in Liberal Hypocrisy
by Peter Schweizer

From the New York Times bestselling author of Clinton Cash comes an explosive new political expose!

Prominent liberals support a whole litany of policies and principles: progressive taxes, affirmative action, greater regulation of corporations, raising the inheritance tax, strict environmental regulations, children's rights, consumer rights, and more. But do they actually live by these beliefs? Peter Schweizer decided to investigate the private lives of politicians like the Clintons, Nancy Pelosi, the Kennedys, and Ralph Nader; commentators Michael Moore, Al Franken, Noam Chomsky, and Cornel West; entertainers or philanthropists Barbra Streisand and George Soros. Using publicly-available real estate records, IRS returns, court depositions, and their own published statements, he sought to examine whether they lived by the principles they so forcefully advocate.

What he found was a long list of contradictions. Many of these proponents of organized labor had developed various methods to sidestep paying union wages or avoid employing unions altogether. They were also adept at avoiding taxes; invested heavily in corporations they had denounced; took advantage of foreign tax credits to use non-American labor overseas; espoused environmental causes while opposing those that might affect their own property rights; hid their investments in trusts to avoid paying estate tax; denounced oil companies but quietly owned them.

Schweizer'€™s conclusion is simple: liberalism in the end forces its adherents to become hypocrites. They adopt one pose in public, but when it comes to what matters most in their own lives, €“their property, their privacy, and their children--they jettison their liberal principles and adopt conservative ones. If these ideas don'€™t work for the very individuals who promote them, Schweizer asks, how can they work for the country?

NOTE: Folks, every book I review on The MountainGnome, I have read and give my honest opinion. This book is excellent reading and exciting (IMO)!

NCL Norwegian Cruise Lines: Cruise To ST. Kitts and Nevis

Port of Basseterre, St. Kitts, St. Kitts and Nevis Cruise Port

St. Kitts is actually a nickname for the Caribbean island which is really St. Christopher’s (named by Christopher Columbus, who didn’t set foot on the island, but sailed past it in 1493). The island soon became a British territory and was fought over for years due to its coveted fertile soil, perfect for growing sugar cane. Today you can visit this beautiful island and walk in the footsteps of history. Cruise to St. Kitts to experience all of this the beautiful land, from hikes in the rainforest to snorkeling off the coast. Don’t forget to visit Nevis, St. Kitts’ sister island located a 45-minute ferry ride away. Listed below are a few ways to make the most of your cruise to St. Kitts:

Climb up the steepest set of 27 steps you’ll ever ascend to get to the Brimstone Hill Fortress. This fort was used by the British and offers spectacular views of the island and its neighbors. Here you can also learn about St. Kitts’ history.

Take in the beauty of the island at the Fairview Great House and Botanical Gardens. This restored house offers beautiful views of the local flora and the Caribbean Sea.

Ride around the island on the St. Kitts Scenic Railway. This open air train offers amazing views of the island’s beautiful landscapes. The train was originally used to transport sugar cane from the plantations to the factories in Basseterre.

Learn about the uncharacteristic early life of Alexander Hamilton, one of the founding fathers of the U.S. who can be seen on the $10 bill. He was born and raised in Nevis.

Folks, if you have never taken a cruise, you are missing a great deal. Adventure, relaxing, educational and just plain enjoyable! There are many cruise lines, try them all! You'll be happy you did.

NOTE: We will no longer suggest Colorado, or any other state that legalized the sale of illegal drugs, as a hunting, skiing, vacation destination without warning you of the consequences!
Due to the legalization of drugs in the state: increases in crime, drug related shootings, increasing traffic deaths, increasing hit & run incidents, we feel your vacations are better spent elsewhere!!

MOUNTAINGNOME ~ NEWS

THE ONLY EMAIL SYSTEM THE NSA CAN'T ACCESS
by Hollie Slade, Forbes Staff
When the NSA surveillance news broke last year it sent shockwaves through CERN, the particle physics laboratory in Switzerland. Andy Yen, a PhD student, took to the Young at CERN Facebook group with a simple message: “I am very concerned about the privacy issue, and I was wondering what I could do about it.”

There was a massive response, and of the 40 or so active in the discussion, six started meeting at CERN’s Restaurant Number 1, pooling their deep knowledge of computing and physics to found ProtonMail, a gmail-like email system which uses end-to-end encryption, making it impossible for outside parties to monitor.

Encrypted emails have actually been around since the 1980s, but they are extremely difficult to use. When Edward Snowden asked a reporter to use an end-to-end encrypted email to share details of the NSA surveillance program the reporter couldn’t get the system to work, says Yen.

“We encrypt the data on the browser before it comes to the server,” he explains. “By the time the data comes to the server it's already encrypted, so if someone comes to us and says we'd like to read the emails of this person, all we can say is we have the encrypted data but we're sorry we don't have the encryption key and we can't give you the encryption key.”

“We've basically separated the message that's encrypted apart from the key - all the encryption takes place on your computer instead of our servers, so there's no way for us to see the original message.”

This is different from all other systems, says Yen. While Gmail has implemented some encryption, they still have the encrypted message and the key to decrypt the message.

The Ultimate Online Privacy Guide!
Introduction:

Edward Snowden’s NSA spying revelations highlighted just how much we have sacrificed to the gods of technology and convenience something we used to take for granted, and once considered a basic human right – our privacy.

It is just not just the NSA. Governments the world over are racing to introduce legislation that allows to them to monitor and store every email, phone call and Instant Message, every web page visited, and every VoIP conversation made by every single one of their citizens.

The press have bandied parallels with George Orwell’s dystopian world ruled by an all-seeing Big Brother about a great deal. They are depressingly accurate.

Encryption provides a highly effective way to protect your internet behavior, communications, and data. The main problem with using encryption is that its use flags you up to organizations such as the NSA for closer scrutiny.

Details of the NSA’s data collection rules are here. What it boils down to is that the NSA examines data from US citizens, then discards it if it’s found to be uninteresting. Encrypted data, on the other hand, is stored indefinitely until the NSA can decrypt it.

The NSA can keep all data relating to non-US citizens indefinitely, but practicality suggests that encrypted data gets special attention.

If a lot more people start to use encryption, then encrypted data will stand out less, and surveillance organizations’ job of invading everyone’s privacy will be much harder. Remember – anonymity is not a crime!

Privacy? I don't have anything to hide.
Over the last 16 months, as I've debated this issue around the world, every single time somebody has said to me, "I don't really worry about invasions of privacy because I don't have anything to hide." I always say the same thing to them. I get out a pen, I write down my email address. I say, "Here's my email address. What I want you to do when you get home is email me the passwords to all of your email accounts, not just the nice, respectable work one in your name, but all of them, because I want to be able to just troll through what it is you're doing online, read what I want to read and publish whatever I find interesting. After all, if you're not a bad person, if you're doing nothing wrong, you should have nothing to hide." Not a single person has taken me up on that offer.

Global Mass Surveillance - The Fourteen Eyes
The UKUSA Agreement is an agreement between the United Kingdom, United States, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand to cooperatively collect, analyze, and share intelligence. Members of this group, known as the Five Eyes, focus on gathering and analyzing intelligence from different parts of the world. While Five Eyes countries have agreed to not spy on each other as adversaries, leaks by Snowden have revealed that some Five Eyes members monitor each other’s citizens and share intelligence to avoid breaking domestic laws that prohibit them from spying on their own citizens. The Five Eyes alliance also cooperates with groups of third party countries to share intelligence (forming the Nine Eyes and Fourteen Eyes), however Five Eyes and third party countries can and do spy on each other.

Chicken, Sausage, Peppers, and Potatoes
You'll need a large, heavy-duty roasting pan (or a couple of smaller ones) and a very hot oven for this delicious dish. The long oven time makes everything beautifully caramelized and the chicken fork tender.

Ingredients:
  • 4 large links hot Italian sausage
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil, divided
  • 6 bone-in, skin on chicken thighs
  • 1/2 pound assorted sweet peppers, seeded
  • 1 small red onion, sliced
  • 1/2 yellow onion, sliced
  • 4 large Yukon Gold potatoes, quartered
  • 2 teaspoons dried Italian herbs
  • 2 teaspoons kosher salt, plus more as needed
  • Freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • Chopped fresh Italian parsley (optional)
Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees F (230 degrees C).
2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook sausage links until browned and oil begins to render, about 3 minutes per side. While sausages are cooking, pierce them lightly here and there with the tip of a sharp knife so some fats and juices are released. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
3. When sausages are cool enough to handle, cut them into serving pieces, about 2-inch slices. Transfer back to pan along with any accumulated juices from the cutting board.
4. Cut two slashes down to the bone on the skin side of each chicken thigh.
5. Depending on the size of the peppers, halve or quarter them and place in a large mixing bowl. Add the sliced red and yellow onions and potato chunks. Add chicken thighs and sausage pieces with pan juices. 6. Season with kosher salt, black pepper, and Italian herbs. Drizzle with a tablespoon of olive oil.
7. Mix with your hands until all ingredients are coated in oil, 3 or 4 minutes. Transfer to large, heavy-duty roasting pan. Evenly space the chicken thighs skin side up. Position potatoes near the top.
8. Place in preheated oven until chicken is cooked through and everything is caramelized, about 1 hour. An instant-read thermometer inserted near the bone should read 165 degrees F (74 degrees C). Sprinkle with chopped fresh Italian parsley, if desired.
