*  A HAPPY & SAFE HOLIDAY SEASON TO ALL  *

Special Christmas:
This gal loved Christmas more than any other day! In her memory, this is "Francie's Christmas"! There was always a special sparkle in her eyes! This is for you Hon.
If tears could build
a stairway,
and memories a lane,
I'd walk right up
to Heaven and bring
you home again.
Love,  Stan and The Children

BUY beautiful Holiday center pieces@ BC CRAFTS The Origin of Mistletoe:
The Custom of embracing under a sprig of mistletoe, if not actually kissing under it, originated in ancient Britain among the Druids two hundred years before Christ's birth. The Druids celebrated the start of winter by gathering mistletoe. Sprigs of the yellow-green plant with waxy white berries were hung in homes to ensure a year's good fortune and familial harmony. Guests to a house embraced under the auspicial sprig. Twigs of the evergreen outside a house welcomed weary travelers. Mistletoe was a plant of hope, peace and harmony.

Talk About Dumb....
DONNER & BLITZEN BLITZIN'
An American family vacationing in Sweden got a feel for what Santa Claus may have to put up with. While they were out skating, two reindeer crashed through a sliding glass door and trashed their hotel room. Robert Franck of Fresno, California said, "One of them pooped in my open suitcase."

 MOUNTAINGNOMES ~ THE GREAT OUTDOORS

Ridin' the Rails: The Alder Gulch Short Line Railroad:
Montana
In 1964, Charlie Bovey established the Alder Gulch Short Line, a mile and a half railroad between Virginia City, Montana and Nevada City. Historically, railroad service never reached Virginia City. It only went as far as Alder, ten miles away. With the arrival of the Baldwin 1910 locomotive, the Alder Gulch Short Line looks more like the real thing. It even sounds like it.
In a deal which began in 1991, three Soo Line cars, a Chapel car and a Shay locomotive were traded to John Larkin of the Escanaba and Lake Superior Railroad of Wells, Michigan for the fully restored 1910 Baldwin locomotive and the rebuilding of the mile and a half track between Virginia City, Montana and Nevada City. The Baldwin now stands proudly in a new engine house in Nevada City, and runs on specified days (to be posted on this page) to Virginia City and back.
The years of negotiations and preparations before the State purchased the Bovey properties in May, 1997, were planned and managed by Kirk Hansen on behalf of Ford Bovey. Finally, on Friday, 10 September 1999, Governor Marc Racicot drove the golden spike to dedicate the Alder Gulch Railroad as well as the McFarland Curatorial Center. The deal was done and Virginia City now has its antique live steam locomotive.

Happy Railroadin' Partners.....have fun and enjoy!!! No better way to enjoy wildlife....nature....and just down right relaxin'!

GREAT GIFT IDEA:
Buy Today...Great Reading!! Rocky Mountain Christmas: Yuletide Stories of the West
by John H. Monnett
By evening everyone present agreed that the Christmas festivities were "the greatest known to that date" in the entire Taos region and Kit Carson was "chief over it all." For the first time in recent memory, different races and Indian tribes had "ate, drank and smoked together." The last toast of the evening was one pledging "fraternal peace" among the races in the Taos Valley. (From the book) Even under the most extreme conditions our pioneer ancestors kept the festive holiday spirit alive in their hearts and frontier homes. From Lewis and Clark's first Christmas in the Rockies to the generous gift that changed a widow's and her children's lives, this book shares celebrations of the Yuletide season.

Is it safe to sleep on a waterbed?:
Probably. You may have two concerns about using a waterbed during pregnancy: First, the heat. Although some studies show that raising a pregnant woman's body temperature to 101 degrees F or higher for an extended period of time can increase the risk for miscarriage or neural tube defects (a birth defect involving an opening in the brain or spine of a fetus), other studies show no connection. Regardless, it's very unlikely that using a heated waterbed would elevate your body temperature high enough to endanger your baby. Second, you may be concerned about the electricity used to heat the bed. A 1986 study did find an increased incidence of miscarriage in women who used electric blankets and heated waterbeds. But several studies performed since then have not found a connection between electrically heated beds and miscarriage.
NOTE: Always Check with and follow the advice of your Physician!

    Newborn Sleep:
Most newborns sleep 16 to 18 hours a day, but (unfortunately for you) they tend to do it in two- to three-hour increments, even at night. Why? Infants have shorter sleep cycles than adults do (because they need to eat more often) and spend more time in a light sleep stage, so they tend to wake up more frequently and need help getting back to sleep. Unlike adults, who may wake momentarily during light sleep and quickly nod off again, babies don't yet know how to settle themselves back down. In between sleep sessions, your baby will wake up for a feeding and some socializing. It will probably be several months before he learns to sleep through the night.
NOTE! Always check with and follow the advice of your physician!!
